He is probably the father and is worried that if that is found out he would be the top suspect and is trying to prevent that, but not cover up a murder. I feel like that bike scene was meant to throw us off. I do not think, however, that the priest is the killer. I started to have my doubt about it then and now I believe it's probably the priest. When I rewatched the second episode a couple days ago I noticed the girl said she "thinks" it's Frank, not that she knew definitively. I don't think Frank is the dad, but obviously it's not Dylan either. Props to those of you who predicted that Dylan wasn't dead last week. Hope she breaks a high score or something by the finale.

Speaking of Jean Smart, I said last week I needed more of her slashing fruit on her iPad and we got it. Mare and her mom fighting had me cracking up. Each interaction feels like it comes with so much history behind it, the character relationships are so well done. I feel like these are characters that I've watched for a lot longer than three weeks.

I love how lived in this world already feels just 3 episodes in.

This could end up being my favorite performance of hers when it's all said and done.Īnother fantastic episode. I will start off every reaction post every week with the same comment because it can't be said enough: Kate Winslet is so fucking good it's scary. You might not like their decision to have her character go there because it is so atypical for detective shows to have such majorly flawed protagonists, but to call it bad writing is just bad criticism.

I think that is a very poor critique of the show to call her decision bad writing when this was the obvious decision Mare’s character was going to make based on her characterization. The writers have already established that she is extremely flawed, skirts around the rules, and is a significant hot head. She knows that most courts rule in favor of the biological mother unless there are significant extenuating circumstances, and she clearly hell bent on that not happening. Her second shot at being a good mother to a son. Mare is clearly in a bad place, that has been established, and we know that this is mostly due to her feeling like a failure as a mother after her son’s death. Not sure I agree about it being bad writing.
